A Rose Among Thorns
Ingredients
- Gin, Roku, as specified in the book30 ml
- Aquavit, the recipe suggests Brennivin or Krogstad30 ml
- Amaro Montenegro15 ml
- Dry vermouth, Dolin dry, not blanc vermouth15 ml
- Orange bitters2 dashes
- Ice, for stirring only; serve without ice

Method
- Add the gin, aquavit, Amaro Montenegro, dry vermouth and orange bitters to a mixing glass.
- Fill with ice and stir until well chilled.
- Strain into a chilled coupe, leaving the ice behind.
- Express a lemon peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop the twist into the glass.
About
A Martini variation with equal parts gin and aquavit. Montenegro softens the sip while dry vermouth keeps the profile herbal. A lemon twist adds a fresh aroma. Created by Matt Piacentini for The Up & Up’s first menu in 2015.
